Breaking News...Easton's getting a SISTER!

Easton was right! We are having a little girl! Both Nathan and I were convinced we were going to have another little boy but we were pleasantly surprised with the news of a little girl. I’m still a little shocked and not used to calling the baby a she but I’m definitely excited to meet this little girl in about 18 more weeks. The ultrasound tech said that I am currently 22 weeks along and will have the due date of June 1st. I guess I will have to wait and see if my doctor will also change my due date to June 1st at the next appointment. This little girl is very active and was quite the challenge to find today during the ultrasound. Either she is very shy or very stubborn. I’m not sure which yet, but I guess it won’t be long before we find out first hand her true personality. Apparently she takes after her older brother and will have big feet too! My poor ribs! Now the hard part is going to be to try to come up with a name we like. We have a list of names we kind of like so hopefully we will be able to narrow it down sooner rather than later. Feel free to offer suggestions.

Easton’s new favorite word is Apple. If it was up to him I’m sure he would want to name his baby sister Apple. So look out Gwyneth Paltrow there might just be another Apple in the world!

Easton Videos

First off we are apparently having a girl. No, we don’t know this officially and won’t know for another three days but I asked Easton the other day if we were having a boy or a girl and he said, “er” so this must mean a girl right? I was thinking that maybe he was just saying girl because it was the last option I gave him (I tend to use this trick to my advantage when he has a dirty diaper and Nathan’s around. Do you want mommy or daddy to change you? Of course it is always daddy!) but when I asked him several times if we were having a girl or boy he just looked at me, ignored my question, and went back to what he was doing. So it must be true at least in Easton’s mind that we are having a girl. I guess we will find out in a few days if he is indeed correct.

The other day Nathan left the tupperware cabinet open and of course Easton climbed right in and found himself a new fort. We have child locks on all the cabinets so Easton kept locking himself in every time he shut the door. He didn’t seem to mind as long as mom came to his rescue and opened the door. Here is a video of what he continued to do over and over again that is until he realized I pulled out the camera. For some reason Easton really likes to watch himself on tape (as I’m sure most kids eventually do) so when the camera comes out he will stop what he is doing, sit in my lap, and wait for me to show him a video of himself (a little vain I know). This is the only video I could get of him not stopping what he was doing and sitting in my lap. Unfortunately he smashes his finger in the cabinet. Easton wouldn’t stop crying until I kissed it not once (because kissing it once apparently doesn’t fix anything) but about 20 times. Either one kiss isn’t good enough or his battle wounds are just so huge/bad (in his mind) that it takes a lot of kisses to fix them.

When we bought Easton his guitar with Christmas money from grandparents we also bought him a basketball and hoop. Easton comes from a Whiting so it is a must that he has a basketball and hoop and basketball skills under his belt. Grandpa Whiting would be so proud! Easton loves his basketball and hoop. I especially love his victory dance after he makes a basket. Enjoy!

Ups and downs from the last week

Last Wednesday we went out to eat as a family and when I woke up the next morning I was extremely sick. At first I just thought that it was morning sickness but after throwing up about eight times and not being able to keep anything down I realized it must have been something else. Nathan ate my left overs for lunch that day and then came home the next morning sick as well so I’m pretty sure we both got food poisoning. Definitely not fun. I felt so bad for Easton because I was so weak and sick that all I could do was feed him and change him and sit him in front of the TV all day to keep him occupied (he was probably in heaven that I allowed him to watch so much TV). He was so sweet though because he kept coming up to me and giving me kisses. He also tried to get me up to play with him but that just wasn’t going to happen.

Nathan found out that he was going to get a four day weekend so we decided to take a little trip to New York to see Shannah and Skyler. We had a great time visiting, playing wii, singing karaoke, and eating lots of great food (fondue-yummy). Easton also got to experience his first time playing in the snow. Nathan took him out sledding. I’m not sure he enjoyed the cold white stuff especially when he face planted right in it but the next day all he wanted to do was go outside so it must not have been that terrible. One of the nights we were there Easton kept waking up in pain because he was gassy and constipated. Nathan finally decided to make a trip to town to pick up some things to help Easton. Shannah and Skyler live on a really steep hill so when Nathan tried to get down the hill (it had snowed a couple of inches) his breaks locked up and the car just kept sliding down the hill. He was coming up on a curve and realized he wasn’t going to make it so he ditched the car in a neighbors driveway. Luckily Nathan wasn’t hurt but there was some damage done to the car (nothing too terrible). Nathan dug himself out and attempted to drive back up the hill with no success. He just kept sliding down the hill. Eventually he called me and I had to wake Shannah and Skyler up to help rescue him. Everything is fine now. We made it back home safe and the car is in the shop getting fixed. Thanks Shannah and Skyler for letting us come and visit. We had a wonderful time. I just wish we lived closer to each other so we could see each other more often.

Like Father like son.

Earlier this morning while Nathan was at work someone (I’m pretty sure I know who it was) tried to break into our apartment! I think they thought we were still out of town and thought it would be easy to break into our place. They first started to turn the handle to the door but realized it was locked so then they attempted to break the lock by hitting the door with their shoulder. Of course that didn’t work so they began to jam something between the door and the lock. I looked out the peep hole and saw this all happening and said, “excuse me, what do you think you are doing?” This must have startled them because they slide away from the door towards the balcony and then eventually went into my neighbors place. I should have called the cops (I know I’m stupid) but instead called Nathan to see what I should do. He didn’t answer so I called my mom in a panic. She told me to call the police or at least file a report. The same person who I believe was trying to break into our place came over several times knocking or should I say banging on our door as if he was trying to play it off. I refused to answer the door or even say anything to him. Eventually Nathan came home and we did file a report. The cops came over and I told them the whole story. They went and talked to this individual who claimed he was just trying to return a piece of tupperware to us (hello the tupperware didn’t even belong to us and looking back I don’t remember him having anything in his hand each time he came banging on my door). Also, why would someone be so adamant in returning a piece of Tupperware to someone (he came by 4-5 times within two hours after the incident) that “wasn’t home” unless you knew they were home because they said something to you earlier when you tired to break in? I doubt this individual will attempt something like this again (thank goodness) but still I’m a little worried to be home alone with Easton and will forever feel awkward around this person. Hopefully we won’t have too many if any run-ins in the future.

Future Rock Star

I was watching a little boy named Parker today who is 3 months younger than Easton (however they are probably the same height and weight-lots of people say they are twins). Anyways, Parker brought over a toy guitar today and Easton absolutely loved it. He couldn’t stop rockin’ out with it. Here’s a video of Easton rockin’ out. Easton got money from some of his grandparents for Christmas so we might go out shopping tomorrow for that guitar. Wish us luck!

Just a random picture of Easton cuddling with his doggie.

On another note, yesterday while I was taking a shower, Easton decided he was going to climb up onto the toilet seat and then continue unto the counter top. From there he slid into the sink and turned the water on. I heard him crying and getting really upset. I’m not sure whether he was crying because he was getting wet (maybe it was too cold) or if it was because he knew he was going to get into trouble. I tend to think the latter because Easton loves playing in water. Anyways, he not only got his pjs soaked but he also soaked his scriptures that I happened to leave on the counter from the night before when I was reading them to him while he took a bath. I guess this means in the future that I shouldn’t leave anything on the bathroom counter that I wouldn’t mind getting wet or soaked for that matter.

Here’s another video of Easton doing Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes. Definitely not perfect but still cute. Just excuse the singing.

19 Weeks

My sister asked for pictures to help her determine if I was having a boy or girl. If this helps anyone else...great! I'm sure my mom and maybe others would also like to see the progress so far so here you go.
Here's a picture of me with the twins (Easton and Parker). Also, if you can't see that picture all that well, here is an up close picture.

Baby Kelsey...Boy or Girl?

We are finding out if our baby is a boy or girl on the 28th of January. Feel free to vote on the left and tell us what you think we are having.

Toddler bed

Nathan and I finally got Easton a toddler bed last week to start transitioning him from his crib to his bed before the new baby comes. I thought it would be a lot harder than it has been. Luckily for us Easton loves his new bed. He plays in it all day with his stuffed animals and blanket (or "baby" as he likes to call it). Anyways, I had planned on making the transition a slow one, but after a few days of waiting for him to fall asleep in his crib and then moving him to his bed, I decided to see how he would react to putting him straight to bed in his toddler bed. I put the kiddie gate in front of his door so that he couldn't get out of his room (a little mean maybe but it isn't all that different from a crib right?) The first night was the hardest but surprisingly it was a lot easier than I imagined it would be. He cried for about 15 minutes by the gate and then when things quieted down I went to check on him and he was fast asleep on his bed. Last night he cried for about 10 minutes by the gate and then fell asleep on his bed and then tonight he cried for only two minutes by the gate and then fell asleep on his bed. We are still working on nap time. I guess when it is light out Easton thinks it is play time and not nap time. I will probably have to work on this in two weeks because Nathan is currently working night shift (OB rotation) for the next two weeks and I really don't think he will appreciate crying, screaming, and struggling when he is trying to get some much needed sleep. So far Nathan seems to enjoy the OB part of this rotation. In a couple weeks he will be doing GYN so we will see how much he likes it after that. He took part in a birth on Tuesday night and got to deliver the placenta (a little gross but I guess that is all part of child birth).
